Laser photocoagulation is an effective treatment to prevent retinal detachment in patients with acute retinal necrosis

Chen and co-workers aimed to evaluate whether prophylactic laser is effective for retinal detachment following acute retinal necrosis. PubMed, Embase and Cochrane databases were searched, and the retrieved records were screened. 14 studies with a total of 532 eyes were eventually included.  Chen and co-workers coluded that, in patients with ARN, laser photocoagulation is an effective treatment to prevent retinal detachment, especially in the subgroup combined with antiviral therapy and steroid.
