Blazes and co-workers analyzed associations between obstructive sleep apnea and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) risk. A total of 66,869 obstructive sleep apnea patients were matched with 66,869 non-obstructive sleep apnea patients. The authors found that patients with obstructive sleep apnea had a 1.36-fold increased risk of developing AMD degeneration compared with matched peers without obstructive sleep apnea, but no increased risk of progression to exudative AMD.
